Roman Glass Amphoriskos w/ Trailing Handles
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A delicate, lovely free blown amphoriskos, made of a very pale green, translucent glass, with thin silvery and pearlescent iridescence on the surface. The vessel has a teardrop form perched atop a disc form; its elongated neck widens into a rolled rim. Trailing, ribbon-like handles cover much of the length of the body. These handles are a deep blue, almost black color, with deposits of similar hues, giving them a shimmering, opaque appearance in contrast to the body of the vessel. Size: 2.45" W x 5.6" H (6.2 cm x 14.2 cm)
Provenance: ex-private prominent D.K. collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 2000s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
#152747
Condition Report: Intact with great silvery and pearlescent iridescence and light weathering film. Rough pontil mark on underside. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.
