Roman Glass Bead Necklace - Wearable!

[ translate ]

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An attractive necklace of a wearable form composed of fifty-two glass beads in spherical and cylindrical forms. The petite beads exhibit light green, yellow, and blue hues and are strung along the outer strands, and the central ovoid bead bears an icy blue color. Hanging from the middle of the necklace is a discoid amulet of a dark green, nearly black hue with a suspension loop formed from an integral, forward-folded trail of glass. Each bead has brilliant layers of silvery and rainbow iridescence across most surfaces. Strung in modern times and capped with a gold-filled loop and French hook combo, this is a stylish necklace that combines modern fashion with ancient artistry. Size (necklace): 16.625" L (42.2 cm); (largest bead): 0.9" W x 1.6" H (2.3 cm x 4.1 cm)

Provenance: private Dere family collection, New York, New York, USA, acquired between the 1980s and 2000s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
