Roman Glass Cup w/ Undulating Design

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $400**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A free-blown, translucent drinking cup of a near-colorless glass with a pale green tinge. The vessel has a slightly concave base with a smooth pontil scar, a bulbous body which tapers to a squat neck, and a flared rim with a rolled lip. The body is decorated with a register of undulating bands - created during the blowing process based on their raised texture on both the interior and exterior - with small globules of glass along each of the bottom curves. A thin trail of applied rigaree encircles the neck, and thick areas of silver and rainbow iridescence give the vessel an elegant presentation. Size: 3.25" W x 3.875" H (8.3 cm x 9.8 cm).

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
