Roman Glass Date Flask - Amber Hue
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. An attractive flask resembling a date fruit, mold-formed from semi-translucent glass of a lovely amber hue. The vessel is defined by a tapered base, an ovoid body with dozens of raised wrinkles, a smooth shoulder, and an in-folded rim above a squat neck. Wispy layers of silvery and rainbow-hued patina have developed in scattered areas and create an elegant presentation. A wonderful example of Roman glass-blowing artistry! Size: 1.5" W x 3.2" H (3.8 cm x 8.1 cm); 4.1" H (10.4 cm) on included custom stand.
A strikingly similar example, of a slightly smaller form, hammered for GBP 4,750 ($5,836.66) at Christie's, London "Antiquities" auction (sale 15501, July 3, 2018, lot 107)
