Roman Glass Flask, Ribbed Detailing

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A beautiful ribbed flask shaped from semi-translucent glass of a soft yellow-green hue. The vessel has a concave base and a rough pontil scar, a spherical body, an indented neck line, and a flared neck with a rolled rim. The body is surrounded by sixteen raised, mold-formed ribs, and faint silvery iridescence is visible across the composition. Size: 2.5" W x 3.3" H (6.4 cm x 8.4 cm).

Condition Report: Minor abrasions to base, body, and neck, with light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Light earthen deposits throughout, and scattered areas of faint silver iridescence.
