Roman Glass Flask w/ White Swirls

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous piece of glassware with honey-amber hues and opaque white swirls. A spherical body extends into a long tubular neck with a flared lip. The subtle creamy marbling was created when canes of white glass were applied to the body and neck. Wonderful areas of rainbow and silvery iridescence on the body enhance its beauty. The bottom is slightly flattened, and can stand on its own. A beautiful piece of Roman glassware that is fittingly conjures images of the planet Jupiter! Size: 2.5" W x 4.625" H (6.4 cm x 11.7 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
