[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd. century CE. An attractive free-blown glass jar that sits on a concave base, presenting with a light green hue and a great deal of character. The bottom bulges outward at one side and the walls rise upward to a rounded shoulder and petite neck. The rim flares slightly with a stunning golden iridescence around the lip, while the exterior has a faint rainbow iridescence across most of the surface. A stunning and petite jar, perhaps used by a Roman lady to hold scented oil or perfume. Size: 1.75" W x 3.75" H (4.4 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#158796
Condition Report: Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Surface wear commensurate with age. Intact with earthen encrustations and deposits as well as faint rainbow iridescence!
