Roman Glass Unguentarium + Phoenician Glass Amphora

Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, Phoenicia, ca. 6th century BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine pair of ancient glass vessels: a Roman unguentarium and a Phoenician amphora. Free blown from blue-green glass, the unguentarium presents a conical body with a concave base, an elongated neck, and a thin, flared rim. Conversely, the amphora displays a miniature size with a round body, a sizeable spout, and a ribbon-form handle, all core formed from blue, white, yellow, and red glass. Amphora accompanied by modern Lucite stand. Size (larger): 1.4" Diameter x 3.9" H (3.6 cm x 9.9 cm)

Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection; ex-John B. Kendrick II collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired 1965 to 1990; John B. Kendrick II, son of John B. Kendrick, former Wyoming Governor and US Senator 1930s

Condition Report: Both have light surface wear with some miniscule nicks. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent. Unguentarium has scattered areas of iridescence and weathering film to interior, while amphora shows liberal earthen deposits throughout.
