Roman Glass Unguentarium w/ Nice Iridescence

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful unguentarium shaped from nearly opaque glass in hues of emerald-green and yellow-green. The vessel exhibits a slightly concave base, a bell-shaped body with a rough pontil scar along one side, a tubular neck, and an everted rim with an in-folded lip. The exterior surfaces are enveloped in lustrous, rainbow-hued iridescence that elegantly complements the verdant hues of the vessel. Size: 1.9" W x 5" H (4.8 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s

Condition Report: Light weathering film, micro-bubbling within glass matrix, and minor encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Beautiful rainbow iridescence throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
