Roman Gold Ring w/ Carnelian Intaglio (Horse)

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning gold ring presenting an ovoid carnelian intaglio of a left-facing horse. Skillfully incised into the vibrant red stone, the noble steed exhibits a muscular body with a bowed head and a serrated mane as he steps forward. The smooth body of the ancient ring gently tapers to a thin band opposite the intaglio. A beautiful example that was likely worn by ancient Roman nobility! Condition Report: Both intaglio and ring are ancient. Some scratches to intaglio but image is still clear. A few indentations and abrasions to gold, commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact, excellent, and wearable.
