[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $650**

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast bronze applique in the form of a woman's bust, nude aside from a diagonal strap, probably representing a quiver full of arrows. Wing-like decorations rise from the shoulders. The woman has a fierce face and an elaborate coiffure, carefully depicted by the artist, giving her an exotic look. Amazons, fierce women warriors from Scythia, were popular subjects in the Roman imagination. This applique would have made a handsome decorative element on a vessel or piece of furniture. Size: 3.1" W x 3.3" H (7.9 cm x 8.4 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
