Roman Leaded Bronze Bust - Janus Headed Female

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A wonderfully-preserved leaded bronze janus-headed bust of a woman, finely cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process. She gazes upward with delicate facial features framed by a neatly coiffed hairdo with meticulously delineated waves/curls. She presents with her head tilted slightly up and a thoughtful expression. The integral extensions below and to each side of her long neck were likely used for attachment to a piece of furniture or a vessel. Lucite stand for photographic purposes not included. Size: 2.25" H (5.7 cm)

Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000
