[ translate ]

Roman, Imperial, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. An intriguing leaded bronze face applique formed using the lost wax (cire perdue) process featuring an expressive visage with two almond shaped eyes looking upwards under a lowered brow, a flat nose, and full pursed lips with the corners turned down. Surrounded by a thick mane of curly locks, this countenance wears sizeable crescent-shaped lunar earrings, a collared necklace of drooping jewels or beads, and a large triangular headdress with a raised central ring, flanked by two volutes, and topped with a flared rim holding two zoomorphic creatures. A stunning piece enveloped in gorgeous seafoam green patina evocative of ancient Rome! Size: 1.5" W x 2.875" H (3.8 cm x 7.3 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
