A carved limestone female statue head with folded vitta covering the top, sides and rear, hair visible above the brow in centre-parted style, broad brow and high cheeks, aquiline nose, small mouth slightly pouted; the expression solemn or mournful; provincial workmanship; mounted on a custom-made stand. 31 kg, 52cm including stand (20 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; formerly with the Mahboubian Gallery, London, UK; acquired before 1972; accompanied by an early 1970s black and white photograph; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.157481-10033.
