Roman Marble Head of a Male Youth

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A carved marble head of a male youth delineated in high relief, with a close-cropped curly coiffure framing his handsome face presenting a tranquil visage comprised of lidded, almond-shaped eyes, an arched brow line leading to a naturalistic nose, closed heart-shaped lips, a nicely defined chin, earlobes (one lost) peeking out from his hair, and well-modeled facial planes. A wonderful example. Size: 1.5" L x 1.875" W x 2.5" H (3.8 cm x 4.8 cm x 6.4 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition Report: Top of head has been reattached. Restoration to nose and part of mouth. Expected surface wear with old nicks and abrasions that have smoothed over the years. Brown pigment around drill hole fitted with stand attachment. Back of head is not carved as this piece likely came from a relief, perhaps a sarcophagus panel. Surface deposits grace the surface.
