Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A marble sarcophagus fragment skillfully carved in high relief to an undulating decorative motif perhaps representing a garland, ram's horns, a pair of fantastical animals, or long-necked birds touching beaks. The bottom periphery of each ends in a raised ring, while loose, vertical striations line their forms, adding texture that resembles plumage or fur. Size: 3.6" L x 10.4" W x 7.4" H (9.1 cm x 26.4 cm x 18.8 cm)
