Roman Marbled Glass Vessel

1st century BC-1st century AD. A slender alabastron of marbled polychrome glass, with conical base and tapering body; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Lightfoot, C.S. Ancient Glass in National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh, 2007, item 27 for type. 163 grams total, 17.5cm including stand (6 3/4"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired London art market, 1970-1980.
