Roman Medical Instrument and Other Group
1st-4th century AD. A mixed group of eight medical and other implements comprising two complete examples: a spoon with flat-section ovoid paddle and animal head terminal; a pin with tapering round-section stem and spherical finial; six fragmentary implements: spoon with round-section stem, bulbous finial and u-section bowl; finial from a pair of tweezers with collared piriform finial and flat-section arms; small spoon with D-section stem and shallow piriform bowl; stylus with round-section stem, wedge-shaped eraser and pointed writing end; a tapering lozengiform shaft with square-section tang; a stem fragment. 70 grams total, 4.5-15.5cm (1 3/4 - 6"). From the private collection of a medical professional; formerly in the private collection of Prof Joseph Laissus (1900-1969), a professor of metallography and president of the French Society of Jules Vernes.
