Roman Medusa Phalera
1st century BC-2nd century AD. A domed bronze discoid phalera with gorgoneion amulet to the centre, bands of running scrolls to the flange rim, protruding snake-head above. Cf. Rolland, H. Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, items 326, 327, 328 for type. 132 grams, 70mm (2 3/4"). Property of a European collector; acquired from from his grandfather's collection; by descent 1986.
