Roman, Imperial period, manufactured in North Africa, ca. 4th century CE. A pair of simple but quite lovely redware pottery plates of the type that were Roman North Africa's leading export from the 3rd to 4th century CE. Plates like this were used throughout the empire from Asia Minor to Britain. One is plain, while the other has a stamped motif of ringed spirals in tondo. Size of largest: 9.7" W x 1.25" H (24.6 cm x 3.2 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, purchased prior to 2006
