Roman Pottery Oil Lamp w/ Ram

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-formed pottery oil lamp with a circular base, a pierced handle, repeating grooves along the shoulders, and a wide wick spout. Within the recessed tondo are two fill holes that flank the top and bottom of a stylized ram with a shaggy coat. The lamp is covered in thick orange-red slip. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 4.4" L x 3" W (11.2 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

Condition Report: Minor abrasions and nicks to base, body, handle, and spout, with light char marks to spout, softening to some finer details within tondo, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of original pigment throughout.
