Roman Silver Trumpet Whorl Brooch

2nd-3rd century AD. A silver openwork plate brooch with spring and catch to the reverse, La Tène trumpet-whorl design in high relief. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, Oxford, 1989, item 1624. 12 grams, 33mm (1 1/4"). Property of a European gentleman living in the UK; formerly in a private collection formed in the 1990s.
