Roman Terracotta Cupid Figure

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An endearing sculpture of Cupid (Greek Eros) standing in contrapposto atop a concave pedestal, placing his right hand on his hip and holding a cloak over his left arm, and wearing a short tunic. He is looking downward, perhaps toward the earthly realm below, with a sweetly delineated visage crowned by a centrally parted textured coiffure and with his wings fluttering. Size: 4.875" H (12.4 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired between 2003 and 2005; ex-Tom Cederlind collection, Portland, Oregon, USA
