Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp w/ Gadiator Figure

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A wonderful redware oil lamp presenting a discoid body with a recessed central tondo, petite fill hole, and flared and pointed spout flanked by a pair of volutes, all sitting upon a flat, circular base. The recessed central tondo is adorned with the relief image of a man dressed in a loin cloth facing right as he raises his left arm and bends his right arm at the elbow. Please note that Lucite stand is for photography purposes only. Size: 4" L x 2.875" W x 1" H (10.2 cm x 7.3 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired 1990s
