Roman bronze handle in the form of a canine
A Roman bronze handle in the form of a canine, c. 1st - 3rd Century AD, the forepart of the canine emerges from an acanthus bordered double ringed border around the mounting shaft. The hound is beautifully styled and wearing a collar, both front paws resting below the head. L: 1 7/8 in(4.8 cm). Nicely patinated. Ex Peter Cheremisinoff collection, NJ.
