Romano-Egyptian terracotta head of a grotesque

A Romano-Egyptian terracotta head of a grotesque, c. 1st Century BC/AD, possibly a comic actor, wearing a rolled hair fillet, which sits above a brow protuberance, his left forefingers in one side of his mouth, perhaps indicating the character has a toothache. An interesting example and more unusual than the standard terracotta heads floating around here. H: 2 3/4 in (7cm). Ex Haneuse collection, England; J.M.E. collection, New York, acquired at Sotheby's, London, December 1992.
