Rómulo Macció Escalas

[ translate ]

Rómulo Macció
1931 - 2016

Escalas
signed macció (lower left)
oil on canvas
58¾ by 58⅞ in.
149.2 by 149.5 cm.
Executed in 1968.

Condition Report:
This work on canvas is well-stretched. There are faint ripples in the canvas on the right edge and lower right corner. The white pigment in the lower center and center left has developed faintly visible cracks. None of the other colors show any cracking. These cracks have not been retouched or otherwise addressed. White pigments do often become cracked over time. These cracks are not unusual.
The painting is visibly dirty, particularly around the edges and in a spot in the white, towards the lower left corner. There may be a thin line of retouches, running diagonally across the lower left corner, but not interfering with the inscription, that is slightly discolored. No other retouches are visible either under ultraviolet light or to the naked eye. The work should be cleaned. The cracks will likely remain as is for the future.
