Ronald Reagan's Hair, 20 of 300, with Three Photos - This lot features an actual strand of President Ronald Reagan's hair from a limited edition collection of 300, and is numbered 20. This lot also includes three striking photographs of the statesman fondly known as The Great Communicator. The first photo depicts Reagan with his horse Little Man at Rancho del Cielo in 1977, the second is from a 1982 rally for Senator Durenberger in Bloomington, Minnesota, and the final image depicts Reagan smiling in a cowboy hat at Rancho del Cielo, originally captured in 1976. Reagan began his political career as the Republican Governor of California, serving from 1967 until 1975. After two unsuccessful bids for the Presidency in 1968 and 1976, Reagan defeated Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential election. His administration was known for his supply-side economic policies, which focused on economic reform through the reduction of government spending as well as tax reductions. Reagan was also a passionate orator, most famously compelling General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to open the Berlin Wall in his famous 1987 Brandenburg Gate speech. Leaving office with an impressive 68% approval rating, Reagan is tied with Franklin Roosevelt and Bill Clinton as one of the most popular presidents in American history. This framed lot measures approximately 24 in x 16 in, and includes the original certificate of authenticity issued by John Reznikoff, president of University Archives.
