Ronald Reagan's Personal Tribute as Pres Approx. 850 Words to Nancy Reagan and His Mother, Nelle Clyde Wilson
AM

Fine content autograph document (unsigned), three pages, 8.5" x 11", [n.p.], May 4, 1981, penned on yellow looseleaf lined paper and created for a Mother's Day story. Titled "Mother's Day Story for Today," with fine personal content. Stapled at top left and in fine condition.

In part: "I'm almost afraid to think how empty & dreary my life would be if Nancy had not come into it. But because she did I wouldn't know what it is to be bored. I only know loneliness when she is out of my sight. I wouldn't be a complete person without her…I think our children are grown up enough to know and appreciate the kind of mother they had….I was the fellow coming home from a trip with a surprise for them – Nancy had been the one to see that homework was done…Nancy is a ‘nester' with a deep sense of family loyalty and our children…Whatever I like doing I like better if she's part of it…Nancy is my partner, my friend, my wife, everything a woman should be in a man's life…".

Reagan then turns his comments to his mother, Nelle Clyde Wilson, in part: "…My mother was a greater influence in my life than I realized when I was younger. I believe my mother knows what has happened to me – that I was Gov. of Calif. and am now President...She comes to mind frequently when I realize I've done something or made some decision based on the principles and beliefs that guided her life…Her greatest gift to me I was a long time in realizing. She left me with an abiding and unshakeable faith in God…".

As a political follow-up to this poignant speech, Reagan would introduce the joint resolution of Congress in 1988 designating the second Sunday in May each year as Mother's Day!

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
