PLATES 1-12:

This plate is the cover of the fairy tale series "Aladdin" and shows him in conversation with the genie of the lamp, who grants Aladdin all his wishes.

Motif II: "The scoundrel Aladdin plays with the street urchins. "
A scene from the oriental city where Aladdin lived. His pranks were the worst and yet he was given the finest fruits by the street vendors.

Motif III: "Aladdin meets the magician"
An African magician has chosen Aladdin to fetch him the magic lamp from an underground magic garden. He gives him beautiful clothes and lures him into the magic mountain.

Motif IV: "Aladdin locked in the magic garden! "
When the magician asked for the magic lamp, Aladdin became stubborn and did not give it to him. Instead, the magician used witchcraft to lock the garden. The flowers and fruits in the magic garden were jewels, and Aladdin collected many of them.

Motif V: "The genie of the ring flies Aladdin out of the magic garden! "
Locked up in the magic garden, Aladdin rubs his hands together in fear and despair, rubbing the ring he found in the garden. The spirit of the ring appears and offers him his services

Motif VI: "Aladdin sees the beautiful princess! "
Bored by playing with the fruits of the magic garden, which are actually jewels, Aladdin begins to wander again. Then he sees the Sultan's daughter and transforms from a naughty boy into a young man in love.

Motif VII: "The genie of the lamp appears to Aladdin's mother! "
Aladdin and his mother are very hungry and want to sell the magic lamp at the bazaar because they have no money left. When the mother rubs the dirty lamp with water and sand, the genie appears and offers her his services.

Motif VIII: "Aladdin's mother brings the Sultan the fruits of the magic garden! "
Aladdin asks his mother to ask the Sultan for the princess on his behalf. The mother gives the ruler the fruits of the magic garden and, overwhelmed by the preciousness of the jewels, he agrees to the marriage.

Motif IX: "Aladdin rides to introduce himself to the Sultan! "

Motif X: "The genie of the lamp builds a castle for Aladdin! "

Motif XI: "Aladdin marries the beautiful Sultan's daughter! "

Motif XII: "And they lived long and happily together! "
The street urchin and rascal Aladdin has become a man and a family man. This plate shows the "happy ending" of one of the most beautiful fairy tales from 1001 Nights.
