Rosenthal studio-linie artist's cup no. 5 by Dorothy Hafner

This four-piece porcelain set consists of a cup and a matching saucer in a postmodern style. The cup features a wide flared rim, a stepped base ring, and a striking, flat and angled handle that tapers towards the bottom. The saucer is asymmetrically shaped and has two step-like recesses at the rim, reflecting the architectural lines of the cup handle. The decoration is executed in a high-contrast black-and-white colour palette. The exterior of the cup and the rim of the saucer have a black ground and are decorated with a white, linear geometric pattern consisting of sharp, overlapping angular shapes, zigzag lines, and clusters of parallel lines. The interior of the cup and the well of the saucer are glazed white. The decoration is applied using the transfer-printing process.

Printed factory marks and artist information are located on the underside of both pieces. The underside of the saucer bears a circular green underglaze logo with a crown and the 'Rosenthal' lettering, with 'studio-linie' and 'GERMANY' below. This is followed by the inscriptions 'Künstlertasse Nr. 5' and 'Dorothy Hafner', as well as a facsimile signature of Dorothy Hafner. The number 27 is additionally printed. The base of the cup features identical marking with the Rosenthal studio-linie logo, the designation 'Künstlertasse Nr. 5', the artist's name 'Dorothy Hafner', and the signature 'Dorothy Hafner'.
