The T chair is impossible to overlook and attracts one's curiosity; It was designed by William Katavalos, Douglas Kelley and Ross Littell in 1952 as part of the "New Furniture" collection for Laverne. Called the "T chair" on account of its metallic frame, which was created by assembling different T-shaped elements and the seat in leather, this chair is a true design classic from the 20th century. In fact, it has been exhibited in the permanent collections of the MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre. The T chairs were manufactured by the Gratz Industries of New York since it was designed for the first time by Katavalos in 1952. In the last 50 years, the "T chair" by Katavalos became a cult piece in various design auctions, on account of its limited production and originality. An iconic example of American avant-garde design from mid-century that remains extraordinarily contemporary and surprising. Consisting of leather attached on a tubular structure in steel in T-shape, this chair presents a fusion of modernist pioneer design with the forward-thinking innovation that was celebrated in the 60s. Simplicity, functionality and essential minimal design are the predefined principles of the designer: three support points, one transversal brace and the upholstery for the seat should be enough. Hidden screws were used to attach the leather upholstery to the frame. The result is a slender and sculptural design that matches any kind of interior. This piece purchased in the late 50s is fully original in both its structure and the leather, it presents the usual traces of wear that make it interesting, a very rare piece of vintage art, hard to find today.
