Roy Lichtenstein (New York, 27th October 1923 - 29th September 1997) was an American pop-art artist. His works are best known for the images that are reminiscent of cartoons . . . Early in his career Roy Lichtenstein based his work mainly on comic books. This triptych is based on the comic book "All American men of war".
The three paintings in "As I opened Fire" tell a story together, which is reinforced by the carefully added text.
