Royal Dux - Bohemia - Art Deco - Pierrot and Pierrette (27 cm) - ca 1935

Magnificent vintage and rare sculpture featuring a Pierrot and his Colombine, in a romantic dancing scene, made by Royal Dux Bohemia, prestigious Czech porcelain factory from 1860. This is marvelous representation of “Pierrot & Pierrette”, mimic ballet in one act, beginning with a traditional Harlequinade that acts as a sort of play within a play. This kind of comedy used to be performed in 19th-century European parks and incorporates all the standard farcical elements of a classic Harlequinade. It is a highly elaborate porcelain figurine, magnificent molded, and brilliantly glazed with purple, ivory white and heavy gilded. Marvelous pure Art Deco, this is an eye catching large statue, model issued in 1930s years, in Bohemia region, former Czechoslovakia country, marked accordingly on the back of the base by the over-glazed Dux dark pink triangle added and impressed numbered. The figurine is in excellent vintage condition, various small areas of gold losses and tip of the pointed shoe repaired, otherwise NO chips, NO cracks and NO hairlines, please see the pictures as they are part of description.
