In 1958 Eterna created a wristwatch that took its name "Kon-Tiki", inspired by the Inca sun god, from the balsa wood raft Thor Heyerdahl used in 1947 for his famous journey across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to the Polynesian Islands, which he undertook to prove that such a journey was possible. The watch was to become Eterna’s most robust and reliable model. This "Royal-Quartz Kontiki" model has a bezel with 48 sparkling diamonds arranged in six groups of eight. The case back is decorated with a relief representation of Thor Heyerdahl’s raft. The anthracite dial with with bar hands and indexes features a vertical pattern which lends the dial a very structured appeal. The date is displayed on gold ground in a window at 3 o’clock.
