"In the British poster for Rudge cycles, the bicycle is likened to a family vehicle: the father, a huge bundle of laundry on the head, guides the machine; the woman is on the rack, and the young child is on the frame. Their clothing has become Westernized, but adapted for a warm country: white shorts, cotton dress, white tennis shoes" (Negripub, p. 86).
