Russian Blue Serpent Clock Trinket Jewel Box Egg

[ translate ]

Inspired by the original 1895 Serpent Clock, created by Carl Faberge for the Russian Royal Family. Enamel & gilt over pewter, with embedded Austrian crystals. The top half of the egg lifts up on a hinge, with magnetic closure, to reveal an enameled interior for storing trinkets or jewels. 7" H X 2 3/4" W. Comes with gift box. The original Blue Serpent Clock Egg was presented to Tsarina by Alexander III on Easter day, 1887. It is possible that by this time, the egg gift was already an established tradition, allowing Faberge & his craftsmen an entire year to craft the next egg.
