One side of the handle applied with a white enameled cross of St. George, the scabbard applied with a zheton enameled with a red cross beneath a Russian Imperial crown, all beneath the Russian inscription For Bravery, the scabbard further inscribed in Russian: "In good memory of our glorious, brave commander of our Cossack hundred, Alexei Petrovich Avilov, Esaul, from the Cossack 111th Hundred, in memory of the difficult European war, 1914-15"
