Russian Trans-Siberian Railway egg, trinket or jewel box. After the original c.1900 created by Carl Faberge for the Russian Royal Family. Enamel & gilt over pewter with The top of the egg lifts off to reveal an enameled interior for storing trinkets or jewels. Magnetic closure with a tiny gilt train charm surprise inside. Comes with gift box. 4 1/2" H X 2 1/2" W. History of original egg - Nicholas II, as the Tsarevich, laid the foundations for work on the construction of the Siberian Railway, when he and his brother George reached Vladivostok on the final part of their overseas journey in 1890 - 1891. The Trans-Siberian Railway Egg was transferred in 1927 to the Kremlin Armoury Museum in Moscow and is one of the ten Eggs that were never sold.
