Ruth Monro Augur (American, 1886-1967) Raid of the Overland Stagecoach Oil on board 17 x 36 inches (43.2 x 91.4 cm) Signed lower left: Ruth Monro Augur PROVENANCE: Private collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; By descent to the present owner. Throughout her career, Ruth Munro Augur completed five public murals that were commissioned by the WPA. Born in Austin and raised in Denver, she studied at the Student School of Art. In 1905 she won a scholarship to the New York School of Art, where she was a student of Robert Henri and William Merritt Chase. About ten years later, she studied in California at Carmel for summer school, the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles.

Condition Report: Surface soiling, prominent in the lower half of the painting. Some pigments fluoresce under UV light. The board has a slight convex bow. Framed Dimensions 23 X 42 Inches
