Manuscript DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 10.25 x 15.5, November 27, 1880. Pardon document, in part: "Whereas, William Tippett, on conviction of assault, was sentenced by the Police Court of the District of Columbia…And whereas, circumstances are made to appear evincing that he was at the time hardly responsible for his conduct, wherefore his pardon is earnestly recommended by Hon: Thomas P. Morgan, of the District Commissioners, as well as on account of the prisoner as of his destitute wife and children…I, Rutherford B. Hayes, President of the United States of America…hereby grant to the said William tippett, a full and unconditional pardon." Signed at the conclusion by President Hayes and countersigned by Secretary of State William M. Evarts. The white paper seal affixed to the left side remains fully intact. In very good to fine condition, with heavy intersecting folds, and the signature a couple of shades light.
