Rutile Graves Mountain,Lincolnton, Lincoln Co., Georgia, USA "A sharp shiny black five inch crystal. Bought as part of a 100 pound lot of crystals from a miner who lived near Lincolnton. They were all covered with a goethite? crust that we chipped away by pinging away on the surface of the crystals with the point of a sharp chisel or a pocket knife. Jim Minette got a perhaps the best one off of me that cleaned up wonderfully." - Rock H. Currier "Driving thru Lincolnton, a couple miles from Graves Mountain, Rock asked the gas station operator if he knew where to buy minerals. He responded, "Oh, you can't buy any crystals here, that's illegal. Anybody caught selling crystals is fired on the spot." Things went silent. Then he looked at our California license plate ("ROCKHC") and said: "Well, if you're not in a rush, the market across the street makes a good sandwich and there's a nice park to rest and eat." Rock knew to take the advice. We bought sandwiches and went to the park. A car pulled up and the driver asked if we were interested in buying rutile. We bought from him, then he called friends and we bought from them too. All-in-all Rock bought several hundred pounds, probably a cubic yard of rock, while eating lunch in the park." - Bill Besse This is an extremely large one for that lot. Most were in the 2-3" range. Overall Measurements: 4.7 x 3.9 x 3.1 inches (12.0 x 10.0 x 8.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #3802, acquired 1979 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
