The brown thermoplastic covers molded with a profile portrait roundel of George Washington, surrounded by "FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE & FIRST IN THE HEARTS OF HIS COUNTRYMEN," beneath a shield and crossed flags, and above a military trophy, a star in each corner, surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath border enclosing stars, housing two ambrotype portraits of a husband and wife, the inside of the back cover printed "GENUINE/ UNION CASE, / IMPROVED/ Fine Gilt and Burnished/ Hinge,/ S. PECK & CO.,/ MANUFACTURERS." H: 3.75 in., W: 3.75 in., D: 1 in.
