* SAM SKELTON (SCOTTISH 1949 - 2022) SHALL WE DANCE?
acrylic on canvas, signed, titled verso framed and under glass image size 62cm x 122cm, overall size 75cm x 135cm Note: Born in Glasgow in 1949, Sam Skelton began his career as a graphic designer & studied at Glasgow School of Art. Continuously painting throughout his career in design, Sam later embraced the demand for his work and painted full time until his death in 2022. The simplicity yet stark figures painted by Skelton show a rich heritage and insight into his childhood growing up in industrial Kirkintilloch. This can be seen woven through many of his creations. Throughout, his images are children playing on the street which were similar motivations to the Glasgow paintings of Joan Eardley and photographs from Oscar Marzaroli. Sam Skelton was a master at capturing gritty surrounding and the low light of Scotland’s gruelling winters, reflecting in the tough conditions of industrial Scotland. His main galleries were in Glasgow, London and Dublin.
