SAMUEL SPODE OIL ON CANVAS, "SUNBEAM"
SAMUEL SPODE (BRITISH, 1798-1872), OIL ON CANVAS, H 28", L 36", "SUNBEAM" An oil on canvas titled "Sunbeam" by Samuel Spode. Depicting a racehorse adjacent to a dog in a stable. Artist's signature to the lower left. Presented under a gilt wood frame. From a Southeastern, MI trust.
Condition Report: As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame: turns completely light green under UV light indicating that the UV light is not penetrating the varnish and a complete UV analysis is not possible without removing this varnish - notwithstanding this there are a couple or so of dots of overpainting above the horses spine and there is a c. 1/2" x 1/2" oval unmdulated spot in the background in the upper right where the original paint had bee knocked away (no patch or tear showing); overall cracking of the paint with some instability; not lined; modern wood frame is very slightly nicked.
