SARGENT, John Singer 18 autograph letters signed to the French musician Louis Fleury. London c. 1911-1920 Various sizes, some with envelopes. Very good condition. Correspondence written on personal stationery with Sargent’s address (31, Tite Street, Chelsea S.W.), where he had his studio. J.S. Sargent (1856-1925) was an American expatriate painter living in Europe (Florence, Paris, London), considered as the most successful portrait painter of his era. L. Fleury (1878-1926) was a French flautist, performing modern compositions written for him by e.g. Claude Debussy and Cyril Rootham, but he was also a pioneer in the rediscovery of forgotten Baroque flute compositions.
