SAVAGE ARMS 340 SERIES E .223 REM RIFLE W/SCOPE

[ translate ]

SERIAL NUMBER: NSN. BARREL: 24". CALIBER; .223 REM. MANUFACTURED: 1967-1968. The Savage Model 340E chambered in .223 Remington is a classic American bolt-action utility rifle manufactured between 1967 and 1968. Because it lacks a factory serial number, it stands out as a rare, brief production run built right after Savage adopted the flat-shooting centerfire cartridge but just before federal law mandated serial numbers in 1969. The rifle features a unique split-receiver design with a single locking lug, a 24-inch blued steel barrel, a traditional wood stock secured by a prominent barrel band, and a detachable four-round box magazine that feeds flush with the stock. This vintage rifle is paired with a Simmons 3-9x32 Wide Angle scope, an aftermarket addition from the late 1980s or 1990s that perfectly complements the rifle's long-range capabilities. The optic provides a variable 3-9x magnification and a duplex reticle, which uses thick outer bars tapering into fine center crosshairs to ensure quick target acquisition without blocking out small varmints or targets at a distance. Because the rifle's split receiver prevents standard top-mounting, the scope is securely anchored using a specialized side-mount bracket that bolts to the left side of the receiver and curves upward to align the glass perfectly over the bore. CONDITION: Very Good. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The scope glass is clear and could use a professional clean on outer lenses. Operates normally. C&R 27-431
