SC-141. South Carolina. December 23, 1776. $8. PCGS Currency Choice About New 55.

No. faded. Signatures of George Cooke, James Fisher, and Nathaniel Russell. Fourth vertical signature faded. Fully Signed and Issued. Sailing Ship vignette at left. Latin motto MULTORIUM SPES, which Newman translates "The hope of many." The back states "Death to Counterfeit." This denomination was equivalent to 13 Pounds. Imprint "Printed by Pet. Timothy, 1777." A nice AU note is about as nice as these fully signed notes are found. While Remainders are seen in all sorts of lofty gem grades, such is not the case for fully issued notes, which are essentially unknown in uncirculated condition.

Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
