SC-197. South Carolina. July 6, 1789. 1 Shilling, 3 Pence. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Remainder.

Remainder. Top Pop at PMG for the entire 1789 Issue. These notes were issued in order to redeem city issues that had become worn or mutilated. The second occurrence of Treasury is misspelled "Treasusy." A printing of 12,000 for this denomination. Very often seen in AU grade but actually quite rare at the CU level. In our March sale this year, we sold a PMG AU 50 (no EPQ) example for $576. This note is the ultimate example that any collector could hope to find from this esoteric later series.

Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
