SCHERMERHORN POTTERY ATTRIBUTED, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately two-gallon capacity, ovoid form with beaded neck ring, two spaced incised shoulder rings, slightly rounded rim, and applied arched handles. Bold brushed cobalt horizontal tulip decoration on both sides, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Probably Richmond Factory, John P. Schermerhorn (1788-1850), Henrico Co., VA. Circa 1817-1837.
Condition: Flake and sizeable chip to rim. Firing imperfections, including stone pops and slight indentation to decoration on one side, as made.
Size: 12 1/4" H, 6 1/4" D rim.
